HI-35 PEIISTE - HORNS OF THE ALTAR 2C62 BOX
"Horns Of The Altar" is the first release by Peiiste since the duo's Summer 2011 trek through the United States (as one half of the industrial harsh noise wall group Slaughter-Fetus, as well as performing members of long-running American harsh noise group Black Leather Jesus). This new two-hour box set of studio material documents an effort to communicate with a multitude of dis-incarnate entities that had been heretofore disturbing and causing ill within the groups practice space. After a multitude of live performances (and releases) during the period of 2010-2011, the group took a break from its rigid schedule to work on a long-form project throughout the Summer and Fall months of 2011. Using several different types of contact microphones, multiple surfaces around the Human Ignorance headquarters were amplified and tested out for their various sound properties. By the final recording sessions, the entire room had essentially been turned into a gigantic contact mic. Elements of harsh noise and black metal atmospheres mix together with the usual "blazed out" Peiiste sound to create a drastic level of heaviness that marks a new path in the group's methods. Useful for driving out evil entities, calling on the angelic conversation, and communication with the dead (necromancy), "Horns Of The Altar" is a unique document of a dynamic new sound going into the group's fifth year of existence, bringing together the various phases of the group (the electro-hum of "Blood Sac," early material utilizing acoustic instruments, and wall drones such as "Shoshanna," all coming together with the monolithic and heavy crunching wall elements of releases such as "Orm" and "Blood Sacriifice") into two unrelenting pillars of Industrial wall noise electronic composition performed with brutality and precision.

Anyone who witnessed this artist's set at the 2010 Eyes Behind The Wall festival in Houston, Texas knows that Bast is one of the heaviest Harsh Noise Wall solo performers in the United States of America. "Illusions" is a pulverizing, monolithic, and contemplative two-hour new release from Bast. Each conceptual track is a live take excerpted from hours of diverse, meditative sessions. From direct soundboard recordings to full-blasting-amps condenser mic-recorded material with room ambiance, this box set continues in the self-produced vein of material like "FE," but with an even larger palette for textural experimentation. Bast continues to push the project into new directions, exploring the concepts of sexuality and loss of identity through mystical and shamanistic practices, as well as a constant self-reflection. The harsh noise wall work combines an ambient, soothing appeal on several tracks on this release with sharp static textures and an urge away from preconceived notions and expectations of the genre. HI-41 NATURE PRESENCE 2C62 BOX
In 2008-2010, several young music students were given the opportunity to make experimental recordings and compositions. Each student was given a choice of instrument from the Peiiste/Peiste collection and arranged several experimental pieces varying from their own original contributions, except for one girl who wanted us to "remix" her original recordings on her piano at home. Their immediate sound manipulation setup was limited by the pedals and devices within our possession, but their after-the-fact production idea concepts were essentially restricted only by the girls' imaginations. After briefly going over the basic compositional processes of minimalists such as La Monte Young and Steve Reich, the girls then given the opportunity to arrange the recordings according to their very exact specifications, to which we obeyed as closely as possible. The girls were to structure each of their pieces around things involving nature (favorite trees or plants, or for instance Lise's song "Kaleidoscope" is based around looking under a Portabello mushroom close-up). The end result of this experiment was to be a two-hour cassette boxed set for each of the girls (and their parents) to keep for their own enjoyment, which was the first printing of the box made in 2010, released without a label affiliation. After some talk amongst the parents of the children involved, it was decided that a second printing would be made available to the public at large (with the girls last names taken off of the second printing), so that people could hear for themselves the positive results of the experience. Long-time work in progress spanning several years, finally completed, themed around electricity. Earliest sessions were conceived, recorded, scrapped, and forgotten way back in 2006. A record player was destroyed during a late-night session several months ago conceived for a now-abandoned project, the recordings of which made their way onto these sessions. Live electronics were laid out during a full moon this past Summer, manipulated later live in real time during a subsequent full moon. Mixed them together with some other stuff live during another session. As this one was being arranged, was simultaneously recording a water-based Vargrwulf release for the Breaching Static label called "Elite." After a long time of consideration, these were the tracks decided on for this release, "Evil Tape." You can feel it.

HUMAN IGNORANCE MANIFESTO
No one person can perceive the world around them fully, only through an individualized lens. Even with this abstraction, the world around all people is not what it appears to be. Meaning must be found in nature, and in the unnatural. Meaning must be found in death, or there is no reason for living. Sound can be used to express ideas and concepts directly to the human mind. These concepts deal with the human dilemma (and the inherent problem of mortality) by attempting to embrace the ecstatic and mystical at a level that is beyond words. With this in mind, the Human Ignorance label and the artists involved with it are interested in exploring the transcendent and extreme aspects of controlled sound and aesthetic presentation, for the purpose of a shared experience of communication. The audience perception of Human Ignorance product is just as important as the original artist intention, ideally creating a shared personal interaction with each Human Ignorance release. The process is unfinished.

-WHY ARE ALL OF YOUR RELEASES ON CASSETTE?

The magnetic process that is used to create a cassette recording is a living and evolving process that enables each release on the label to have a personal connection (from the label to the listener). Each cassette is individually dubbed by myself and the packaging is assembled by myself or Vanessa (my partner in the label). We enjoy the process of making cassettes... although as the label has grown, it has become a lengthier process to set aside the time and money for long hours spent dubbing cassette tapes. We are sticking with the hand-dubbed cassette format for the forseeable future.

-LOUISIANA? I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE FROM TEXAS. HOW FAR IS HAMMOND FROM NEW ORLEANS?

Hammond is about one hour from New Orleans, and a little over five hours from Houston, Texas. Although we are from Louisiana, over the past few years we have played out in Texas a lot in our groups Peiiste, Slaughter-Fetus, and R.S.P. After performing at the Dead Audio Festival in 2009 (as Peiste), festival founder Richard Ramirez had us come back several more times to Texas with our projects, as well as giving us the opportunity to perform in his long-running noise group Black Leather Jesus. We have had a blast playing in that group with our friends Richard and Sean (and all the other members as well) on our US tour together, and look forward to doing so again in Texas again. We have some friends in Austin and North Texas as well, and we consider the state to be a home away from home in many respects.

-ARE YOU GUYS NAZIS/SATANISTS/ETC? DO YOU BELIEVE IN UFOS? WHY DO YOU USE (fill in the blank) IMAGERY?

The imagery on Human Ignorance releases is selected with the intention of accentuating themes behind the audio content. Any concepts and ideals reflected in a release on our label shows something that we have a personal interest and fascination with. It does not reflect an ironic or detached expression of misguided conceptual art, the intended meaning is exactly that which is depicted in the artifact. An attempt is being made to document some aspect of truth of the world surrounding us, an exploration and meditation on already-existing obsessions and personal inclinations. Anything that appears shocking or comical may have a meaning that is deeper and more intense, more shining than initially observed. Symbols are used to evoke the power inherent within, and they are chosen based on personal inclination and identification. Emotional resonance and personal meaning is the number one criteria for what is chosen to adorn Human Ignorance releases. -CAN YOU GET ME A SHOW IN NEW ORLEANS?

Maybe, but more likely a gig in Hammond... at our house. We have alienated many local venues and promoters with our unique "style" of music and presentation. Despite all of this mounting adversity, like-minded artists passing through are welcome to get in touch. We have an extensive VHS collection + a nice PA, and it seems like more people show up every time we have a show at our house. If we can fit you in the schedule around here, and you are not totally mental or easily offended, it would be a blast to set something up and party with you. However, there is a small grey cat who lives here with us at the office and helps out a lot with our daily activities, so travelers with dogs are discouraged from contacting us... and for that matter, no anti-cat types please.

-WHAT DID YOU THINK OF MY TAPE/DEMO?

Noise/industrial is a fiercely individualized type of sonic and aesthetic presentation that provides an outlet for a myriad of forms of expression... we have made many great friends from this process of trading tapes and performing live. I've heard a lot of cool stuff and really appreciate the opportunity. It is always interesting to hear what people come up with.

-WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A TRADE?

Sure- only in the US though please. Overseas postage rates are a real problem, unfortunately. If we are playing a show together, feel free to offer a tape-for-tape trade if you are curious to partake in our wares. We have a working CD player here at the house and you are welcome to attempt to add to our incredibly miniscule CD collection, but ideally we are keeping that CD collection to a minimum.

Human Ignorance as a label will most likely not ever collaborate with another label on anything such as a release. Due to the personalized nature of the label (and the related Psychic Tapes), releases that carry the Human Ignorance logo are created here in the studio.

Most likely not if I am not approaching you, but give it a shot if you really think it would be the right thing to do. My attention is scattered, so please do not be offended if I do not immediately get back to you about a demo. Your interest and enthusiasm is very much appreciated. Digital submissions will most likely not be considered due to the fact that I try to spend as little time in front of my computer as possible. I am not against putting out material by people that I have never met in person before (wouldn't be the first time) but there must be some manner of personal connection in conjunction with the ethics of the label.

-ARE YOU HARSH NOISE WALL? WHAT IS HARSH NOISE WALL/WHY WON'T THEY LET ME JOIN HARSH NOISE WALL?

The Human Ignorance label is most certainly sympathetic toward and affiliated with the harsh noise wall genre in the fullest capacity possible. Harsh noise wall does not exist on a secret messageboard, although there are people who discuss it such places. Harsh noise wall exists in a psychological barrier between the self and the world around you. The philosophy of harsh noise wall music is an expressionistic and meditative examination of textures in sound. Repetitive sonic creations, highly controlled, yield infinite results in a manifestation of minimalism combined with total sound. A focus on monolithic presentation and dedication to zen-like removal of self combines with a hyper-aware total immersion of the personal self into the sound. You participate in the harsh noise wall ethos by projecting it onto the world around you, both through sound and through life.

-ARE YOU SOME KIND OF A CAPITALIST ETC? WHY DO YOU SELL YOUR TAPES FOR EIGHT DOLLARS?

It costs money for us to do all of this, even beyond just the cost of tapes etc and printing. Each tape is dubbed by hand, as noted previously, which is time-consuming and part of an overall process to create the highest quality product possible. Mistakes happen, and the rare defective tapes, or things that get lost or damaged in the mail, will be replaced or refunded as soon as possible upon discovery. The Human Ignorance label is about creating quality personalized sound recordings in the industrial tradition of high quality combined with a raw and partially obstructed aesthetic in line with an expressionistic d.i.y. punk ethic. This is a result of personal sympathies, economic conditions, and the ethics that the label attempts to uphold. The audience is kept in mind throughout the entire process of creating a Human Ignorance audio document, and hopefully the final product provides an unique and personalized experience of connection between the artist and the listener.
